Public Speaking Society
“We realise the importance of our voices only when we are silenced.” – Malala Yousafazi
The Public Speaking Society meets on a weekly basis at Lurgan College. We meet to discuss upcoming competitions and support each other when researching, writing and delivering our speeches.
There are a series of competitions we enter throughout the year. In September we enter the Poetry Aloud Competition. This is followed by the Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition in October. In November, we take part in the BPW Public Speaking Competition and finally the group takes part in the Edgar Graham Memorial Public Speaking Competition hosted at Stormont in March.
The Public Speaking Society is an excellent club to join for all those wishing to work on their public speaking skills, grow in confidence and meet new friends.
This year, we experienced some great success with Rosie Lappin achieving a first-place position at the regional heat of the Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition. Rosie then went on to compete at the Northern Ireland Final in Hillsborough in February. Her prepared speech on the topic of bees can be read below.
