Scripture Union
Scripture Union Northern Ireland aims to make God’s Good News known to children, young people and families and to encourage people of all ages to meet God daily through the Bible and prayer so that they may: come to personal faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, grow in Christian maturity and become both committed church members and servants of a world in need.
Our theme at SU is unity which is taken from the passage Psalm 133:1 - How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity. United by the body of Christ.
SU branches out beyond Tuesday after school. SU have prayer meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch while also meeting for breakfast once a month. Small groups also exist to allow members to build relationships with one another.
SU afterschool starts each Tuesday with a game followed by worship. A guest speaker from a local church or charity will attend. Afterwards there is small group discussion.
During the year events such as Outreach week, the SU Formal, SU weekend and inter-SU are organised.
Some descriptions of SU from pupils are as follows:
- “SU is a Community to embrace identity in Christ and go after God.”
- "SU is a safe place to have fellowship and worship God with others.”
- "SU is where students come together to outreach to fellow friends of what it means to live a Christian life.”
- "SU us where people meet to have some fun, while learning about God – for those who don’t know of Jesus, and for those that do, to deepen their understanding.”
